Low Residue Diet
A low residue diet is a diet that involves reducing the quantity of stools that are excreted on a daily basis. A low residue diet is very similar in nature to a low fiber diet but it is a great deal more restrictive. Many people who have tried the low residue diet find it very difficult to do so because many of the low residue diet recipes are not that tasty or interesting. The low residue diet is often also a residue fiber restricted diet and is only suitable for short spans of time. The reason the low residue diet is only used for a brief period of time in that it does not allow for the necessary nutritional requirements. A low residue diet is also often a diabetic diet. Some foods that must be avoided on a low residue diet include wholemeal, fried fish and fried meat, pickled meat or fish, smoked meat or fish, meat pies, brown rice, oatmeal and shredded wheat. Other foods to avoid on a low residue diet include dried fruit, canned fruit, nuts, peanut butter, coconut, pastries and donuts, spicy and vegetable soups, pickles and chutneys and jam with seeds in it. All fried foods must be avoided on a low residue diet. Nuts of all types must be avoided on a low residue diet. Some people decided to supplement the low residue diet with low fiber and non-dairy products. Some foods that are allowed on a low residue diet include white bread, white rolls, white rice and white pasta; meat and fish that is broiled or baked but not fried; fruit that is soft and cooked; peeled potatoes that are mashed or boiled, soft carrots, skinless tomatoes and tips of cauliflower. |

Food Guide Pyramid
The Food Guide Pyramid is an outline of food groups based on US government dietary guidelines. The Food Pyramid is not meant to be use as a strict reference point but to be used as an indicator for specific foods to allow you to plan a diet which suits you personally.
The Food Pyramid was developed by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and allows you to see at a glance which foods are healthier than others. It can assist you in choosing from a range of foods so you are eating the recommended nutrients, and also indicates serving sizes to allow you to successfully control the amount of calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, cholesterol or sodium in your diet.
The USDA recommends eating the fewest servings from the 5 food groups on the pyramid, to provide you with the necessary carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and protein. The top of the pyramid, where fats, oils and sweets are listed, are to be used sparingly.
Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese
1 cup of milk or yogurt
2 ounces of processed cheese
1 1/2 ounces of natural cheese
Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, and Nuts
2-3 ounces of cooked lean meat, poultry, or fish
1 egg, or 2 tablespoons of peanut butter count as 1 ounce of lean meat
1/2 cup of cooked dry beans
Vegetable
1 cup of raw leafy vegetables
3/4 cup of vegetable juice
1/2 cup of other vegetables, cooked or chopped raw
Fruit
1 medium apple, banana, orange
3/4 cup of fruit juice
1/2 cup of chopped, cooked, or canned fruit
Bread, Cereal, Rice, and Pasta
1 slice of bread
1/2 cup of cooked cereal, rice, or pasta
1 ounce of ready-to-eat cereal

They were used to exercise during their normal workday, so they had to eat a large meal to get the energy and to finish the job. Now, in this century, we are bound to our chairs in our office working on computers, working at desks, working at cash registers etc… That leaves us with little to no getting up and stretch. And then were getting home and may spend much of our time being lazy in front of the TV, or on our home computer and snacking on greasy unhealthy food.
